Samantha Cristoforetti Barbie® Signature Doll

In 2018, ESA and Mattel created two Barbie® dolls in the likeness of ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, honouring her as part of their role model campaign. The dolls were not commercially available but the aim of the campaign, called the Dream Gap Project, was to encourage children to imagine what they can achieve by showing them role models who have made a difference. Barbie® launched the Dream Gap Project in 2018. This ongoing global initiative found that girls start to lack confidence in themselves at the age of just five years old. The project gives girls the resources and support they need to continue believing in themselves, by highlighting STEM careers for women. As the next step in this initiative, Mattel and ESA collaborated on making this special Barbie® available for sale from selected retailers across Europe.
